Welcome to the AIMday Materials & Energy 2026
Welcome to AIMday Materials & Energy, an event that brings together academic researchers and industry representatives in the fields of materials science and energy research. The overall aim of the event is to identify and support research and development projects, initiatives or ideas for Unversity-Industry collaborations.
Materials and energy, two connected strengths at Uppsala University
Materials science is an exciting and vibrant interdisciplinary research area at Uppsala University, featuring highly profiled and innovative research groups as well as state-of-the-art research facilities. The competences and infrastructures available within areas such as materials synthesis and design, surface modification, materials production, and characterisation are keys for meeting the societal challenges of the future.
Energy research at Uppsala University is equally broad, spanning solar cell technology, batteries and energy storage, hydrogen, wind and marine energy, electric power systems and grid technology, as well as energy systems analysis. Much of this research sits close to materials science, and many of the most pressing industrial challenges today are found where the two meet.
Some examples of key research application areas include development of new solar cells, new materials for batteries, hydrogen in materials and sustainable energy storage, components for a more robust electricity grid, as well as nanomaterials and biocompatible materials for implants and drug delivery. In addition, new production methods, such as additive manufacturing and 3D printing, are a strategic area.
