AIMday Exploring Creative Innovations

University of Galway will host a Creative and Createch-themed Academic Industry Meeting Day (AIMday)

AIMday Exploring Creative Innovations will take place in the O’Donoghue Centre, University of Galway, Ireland on Wednesday, 30 November from
8am-4.30pm.

The AIMday™ will bring together industry leaders, researchers and academic experts to identify and address pressing challenges faced by the Creative and Createch sectors.

They will explore opportunities for new processes and best practices to solve challenges that support innovation, through project collaborations.

The Creative Economy has grown in importance in recent years and has become a significant contributor to the Irish economy.

However, in Ireland, and in particular along the Western economic corridor, the Creative and Createch industries are experiencing challenges that include:

  • Business scaling and growth
  • Sustainable retention and recruitment of talent
  • Unsustainable e-tender procurement processes
  • How to broaden the reach of Irish language content
  • Developing VR and AR capabilities
  • Minimising environmental impacts in the events industry
  • Retaining and protecting IP

In 2018, a research report by University of Galway and commissioned by the WDC identified that the creative economy in the Galway, Mayo, Roscommon region reported a significant and growing economy.

The report highlighted an economic Value of €478 million, Sales of €319 million, Exports of €57 million, 3,132 Companies and Employing 7,413 people.

While innovation by the creative sectors is deemed critical, SMEs remain generally positive about future growth with over two thirds predicting an increase in future employment.

In a global context the creative economy continues to draw a focus for development.

Recent analysis in the EU has shown that in 2019 the sector had a 4.4% share of EU-28 GDP, €663 billion in turnover, and employed 7.6 million, more than the numbers employed in other sectors such as Automotive, Telecoms, and Chemicals.

Created by Uppsala University, the AIMday™ model has been successfully applied by universities all around the world to open up new networks and to develop new collaborations between academia and industry.

How AIMday works

  1. Companies / organisations submit the questions/topics that they would like to engage in a discussion with researchers.
  2. Researchers and academics from all disciplines are invited to sign up for the questions.
  3. We will send you a detailed schedule before the event.
  4. On the day of the event, you will participate in the one and a half-hour workshop discussion for each question with the researchers.
  5. If you are interested in collaborating with the company, post-event research funding streams will be provided.

Academics and researchers from all disciplines are invited to register (by clicking Registration for scientists) to participate in interdisciplinary workshops that focus on challenges in their area of expertise.

Workshops will take place over three concurrent sessions throughout the day (9.30am-11am; 11.30am-1pm; 2pm-3.30pm).
